It Isn’t Easy Being a Recording Artist
In the 21st Century…
Let me tell you about a friend of mine named Nick.
Nick loves music.
He loves to write songs. He loves to perform (and he’s really damn good).
Nick Dreams of ‘Making It’
- ♦ Screaming fans
- ♦ Tours
- ♦ Groupies
- ♦ Luxury hotels
But, Nick was frustrated…
Why didn’t any of the major labels want to sign him?
Why couldn’t he just write songs and play shows?
Why was it so hard to get people to buy his music?
I sat down with Nick and listened to his frustration. I gave him a few moment before asking,
“Are You Waiting for Someone Else to Do the Work For You?”
Think about it because…
Your success or failure as a musician hinges entirely on your answer to that question.
The Lie of “Making It”
Nobody’s going to swoop down and make you a star.
If You Want to Succeed in Music Today, You Need to Make Two Fundamental Shifts in Attitude.
In his book The Great Crossover, author Dan Sullivan expounds upon two key decisions every 21st Century recording artist needs to make:
- Refuse to rely on anyone else for your own financial and professional well-being.
- Don’t expect anyone to give you anything (money, power, prestige, etc.) unless you first give out a ton of value.
Stop viewing yourself solely as a musician and instead begin thinking of yourself as an entrepreneur.
Because in actuality…
The 21st Century is the Best Time EVER to Be a Recording Artist.
And that’s where we can help people like Nick.
